“The Theatre of Business”
Business and Professional Women are often called upon to give a short speech or quality assurance presentation, deliver a report, argue their case, or present a paper at a Conference, Forum or Seminar. These are opportunities for women to exercise both power and influence within their own business, association or organization. Yet, for many women such opportunities to be seen and heard, centre-stage, can still be daunting, uncomfortable or even quite frightening.
As a performer, presenter and educator, I have spent years building my confidence, ease and rapport with audiences and I enjoy passing on what I have learned. Public speaking is potentially a very pleasurable experience. We must first of all feel comfortable ourselves and with what we are presenting, and then we learn to share with the audience.
I have always been fascinated by ways to move beyond ‘performance anxiety’ into authentic self-expression. I devised “The Theatre of Business” in 2004 based on my years of training and performing in theatre and music as well as my background in relaxation and stress management. This workshop develops in women the ability to be relaxed, centred and bodily aware. It encourages natural expressiveness through techniques of improvisation using rhythm, voice, movement and relaxation. My theatre background gives me a director’s eye, awareness of the performance space and the choreographic elements of even a simple presentation.
Each of us is unique in our presentation style. I receive excellent feedback from each “Theatre of Business” workshops that I conduct.
Women in business, professional women and women working in community-based organizations are increasingly a part of the world around us, seen and heard along with men. Women are remembering how important it is for us to engage in public life & often present themselves quite differently to men.
My intention in the ‘Theatre of Business’ workshop is to inspire and support each participant to find pleasure and authenticity in her own unique presentation style. To get in touch with what she wants to say and to enjoy saying it. I create a learning environment that is friendly, respectful, explorative & fun!”
